"Morial" weekend catch-up

Emily learned that the "Morial" weekend included an extra stay-home day, and we sure did need a vacation day from school/work!

Momma started the weekend, truly Memorial style w/ the honor of standing in a procession for a 22 year old Standish soldier who was killed in Iraq. We happened to be at work in Standish on the Friday afternoon they were bringing him home. We were asked to get all our construction equipment off the road so they could shut down the highway. And then we watched the line form on both sides of the street, and thought it a privilege to take our own spots in the line as they passed by. Feeling so very fortunate not to personally know someone who's been lost to the war, I felt it the least I could do for this young man's family, and mine.

That was the start of the weekend; Sister Kathy's party was next, followed by Zachary's 2 year birthday on Sunday! There was a cook-out at Busia W's house, where Emily and Zachary got to spend lots of time w/ family that they don't get to see very often... however, momma wasn't feeling well, and daddy forgot about the camera... hopefully we'll get some pictures soon!

Then, hopefully Emily wasn't counting, because it was back home for one more round of "Happy Birthday" and cake for Zachary!
and more presents!Zachary had a lot of favorites.... anything consisting of a tractor/truck/jeep/or Elmo were the big winners! This was a gazillion bubble maker that Momma thought was pretty cool...Hmmm, we have yet to see the gazillion bubbles though...

The rest of the short week was spent trying to keep cool. It sure has been HOT. Zachary and Emily spent some time in the sprinkler... and as Aunt Tamara pointed out... Emily's fun is trying to stay out of the sprinkler, while Zachary's fun is trying to get his face right in the sprinkler. Couldn't be more different...
