4 year check-up...
Emily's 4 year check-up proves that our daughter is quite nearly one of the smartest 4 year olds around! In addition to the check up, the doctor asked her some various developmental things... draw a circle, count to 10, (uh, how about 100??) name and address (which she knows except the 9375 part). "Can she talk in sentences?" they ask. Are you kidding? She can talk novels.
Then it was time for the immunizations. Apparently years of Emily watching momma get allergy shots has made her comfortable... she sat like a trooper and watched the needles go in... all THREE of them. And only flinched and whined a bit w/ the third one as the nurse said "Ok, this one may sting a little bit"...
A week later of fever however.... we call the doctor again. For the first 5 days, we think it's just a reaction to the immunizations. But after 5 days, decide to check w/ the doc.... and we go in for another check. After a urine sample (fun), throat culture (gag) and TWO blood draws (OHMIGOSH... whose job is it to make the momma feel better??) we find out she has mono. Great. And she's contagious as long as she has a fever... which lasts average of one week... GREAT. The upside I suppose is that the week is almost up. The downside... we had no idea and she's been contagious this whole time. She's fine otherwise... other symptoms of mono appear to be normal behaviors... (whining and not eating (she rarely eats dinner w/o a fuss of "eat your meat and veggies)) so we had no idea or reason to suspect sickness...
But she'll have a couple days of home time to get a good rest and hopefully be back at school on Monday.
In other happier news....
Emily made her first big debut in print.... this is from the Great Beginning's Newsletter...

Wow! She "...watched the needles go in"... That's one brave 4 year old.
Hope Emily will be better in no time at all.
